Caretaker Role – Job Description
Caring for the Lodge House, Campground, Members/Guests and Properties at the Beaver Lodge in Union, Maine
Position available April 1st 2012 to October 31st 2012
Skills Desired
- Independent, self-reliable who is kind yet assertive enough to be in charge
- Ability to work independently and in groups
- Keeps cottage clean and beautiful, treating it as their own
- Has good communication and social skills
- Answers phone, returns or forwards phone messages as well as check missed calls and return them promptly
- Mechanical skills a plus (must be handy if something needs to be fixed or repaired)
- Have a love of the outdoors, wilderness, nature and the environment
- Eco-conscious, eco-minded , environmentally friendly and aware
- Non drug user, no alcohol consumption while on duty
- Must be a licensed driver and have own vehicle
- Knowledge of first aid, updated CPR certified a plus
- Able to lift 50 lbs
Duties
Under the direct supervision of the Executive Staff & Board of Directors, the caretaker is responsible for all of Knox County Fish and Game property. The caretaker will see that no damage is done to the property and that all rules and safety considerations are being carried out as well as other related tasks.
Cleaning Lodge
- Keep floors of lodge clean.
- Keep kitchen clean and orderly.
- The caretaker will clean and refurbish the restrooms and shower periodically throughout the day.
- Check lights periodically throughout the day and turn off if not needed.
- Change out recycling bags when full or if odor is intolerable.
- Wipe door knobs and light switches as needed.
Maintenance of Property
- The caretaker will cut all grass and weed whacking. Main areas are around the lodge, the field coming to the lodge, the cottage area, horse shoe pit, the field down back beach area etc., at least every week or sooner if needed.
- Weeding and raking of horseshoe pit as needed.
- All trash must be put in outside dumpster. Also make sure dumpster lids are closed.
- Do boat checks according to Lake Association rules.
- maintain painting of various items when needed.
- All buildings will be checked daily for cleanliness and necessary repairs.
Maintenance of Beach
- Pick up beach on daily basis.
- Empty garbage on daily basis.
- Rake beach and fill in any holes on daily basis.
Business
- Answering the phone, taking messages or passing detailed information regarding lodge rental, camping, gun range, archery and memberships.
- The caretaker should be present during busy times of the day and busy days of the week to assist members with camping, using the beach and lodge rentals. May leave grounds as needed, but adult coverage must be available (must be approved by President and coverage must be a current member of Knox County Fish & Game).
- Must be available for schedule maintenance appointments and contractors when other chair members/directors are not available. You will need to let them in and supervise during work being done.
- After rental of lodge, will do walk through for cleanliness and damage and will report back to rental chairperson any concerns.
- Collecting money from daily camp site rentals, ice sales, memberships and returning of bottles from events. Documenting transactions in receipt book and filling out any necessary forms that are needed. Turning over money and paperwork to appropriate person on a weekly or monthly basis per request.
- The caretaker is to check all vehicles coming in to see that they are current members and to collect any fees.
- Assisting and providing information to any Executive Staff, Board of Directors or chairperson upon requested for running Knox County Fish and Game business.
- Must attend regularly monthly director and member meetings.
Personal Issues
- Be extremely courteous and helpful to members, guests and potential members, including phone use.
- Must enforce and abide by our Lodge rules.
- Wear logo shirt (3 will be provided)
Benefits
- Live in caretaker’s cottage, which is located at the main entrance. The cottage has a bathroom, a bedroom, kitchen, closet and window facing front yard of lodge. The cottage has a telephone, basic furnishings, is clean and well maintained.
- Will have access to all events and happenings at the Lodge and campground.
- Free utilities to include: phone with unlimited long distance, electricity, heat, cable and supplies to include paper towels, tissue paper and soap.
- Free membership to enjoy the campground, beach, gun range, archery etc.
- Receive a monthly compensation with season full-time position.
- May select two weekdays off during the week. A monthly day off work calendar schedule will be set up with the president/board of directors to provide coverage for chosen weekdays off.
Pets
- Pets are allowed, but there is a fee of $50.00/season for one or more dogs.
- Dogs must be kept on a leash in control by the owner or in an appropriate pen/kennel at all times. The caretaker porch is NOT to be used as dog pen/kennel.
- Dogs on leash should never be left alone outside.
Due to some members or guests being scared of dogs we ask that caretaker dog(s) be kept inside the cottage house or on a leash away from the entrance to the cottage porch and door to allow for easier access and communication with the caretaker.
